How to complain
The Health and Social Care Act 2001 aims to offer patients and members of the public greater choice and involvement with the planning and delivery of services. The three ways in which individuals can voice their concerns are listed below:

Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) acts independently when handling patient and family concerns, liaising with staff, managers and, where appropriate, relevant organisations, to negotiate immediate solutions and to bring about changes to the way that services are delivered. If necessary, they can also refer patients and families to specific local or national-based support agencies.

Patient and Public Involvement Forums (PPIF) are local forums with statutory powers that have been established to provide opportunities for local people to voice opinions and influence changes to local services.

The Independent Complaints and Advocacy Service (ICAS) has been established to provide complainants with access to independent advocates who can offer support and representation if necessary.
