Refugee Women's Resource Project: re housing after domestic violence
Refuges provide temporary accommodation at a confidential address but permanent re-housing is often ultimately necessary. Some women are eligible for re-housing by their local authority under the Housing Act 1996 if they become homeless because of domestic violence. However, asylum seekers and people from abroad who are subject to immigration control have been explicitly excluded from this provision, even if they are eligible for social security benefits.
