This section provides some basic information about different cultures to enable you to develop your culturally sensitive practice. While cultural sensitivity can be the key to the delivery of an effective health program, there are risks in summarising particular cultural issues. There is enormous variety of people both across and within different culture and individuals have different life experiences. Cultural beliefs and traditions need to be respected (while understanding that some traditional practices can be harmful to health). This section of the web site will not make you an expert in all areas of culture and society - neither does it provide a list of ready made rules for working with different cultural groups - this approach would be antithetical to individualised and good quality care. We hope that you will find the resources useful and please contact us if you have additional information you would like to see available on the HARP site.
